Gloria Marie Egan

January 18, 1928 — September 10, 2024

Lakeland

Funeral Mass will be 11 am Friday, September 20, 2024 at Our Lake of Hope Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. David Forsman celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Internment will be in the Biwabik Township Cemetery in Lakeland.

Gloria was born to George and Nellie Doris Guthrie on January 18, 1928, in Baraboo, WI. She attended school in Baraboo and moved to Madison, WI for employment.

Gloria met the love of her life, Jim Egan, on the bacon line at the Oscar Mayer meat packing plant in Madison. They married on August 27, 1949, in Madison, WI and recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Together they had 8 children as they worked their way across the United States following iron work construction sites. They settled back in Lakeland in 1966. Gloria was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik and helped with many church activities. She is the last member of her ladies bowling team, maybe not the best bowler, but she loved getting out with the ladies. She also enjoyed her children, reading, singing, fishing and blueberry picking, working part time and any family get togethers. Gloria & Jim enjoyed 30 years wintering in Apache Junction, AZ. She was very involved in her crafts, exercise and dance line classes. Her dance troupe performed at many social events. Being a grandmother brought Gloria great joy. She loved children. She was responsible for teaching three generations how to play Yahtzee, cards, dominoes and loved to kick anyone’s butt in cribbage.

Survivors include her husband, James Egan, children: Dan (Jody), Diane Theis, David, Deborah (Paul) Maki, Denise Egan, Douglas, Dawn Gross and Darren (Karen). Grandchildren: Jennifer (Glenn) Smith, Jaclyn Theis, Nicholas (Desi) Maki, Adam, Daniel & Fey Egan, Ashlee (Scott) Larson, Tanner (Hailey) Egan, Tyler Gross and Samantha (Patrick) Stapleton. Great grandchildren: Lily Larson, Evie & Ellie Smith, Grace & Ben Theis, Lucy Lepak and her mother Brittany Lepak. Gloria is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eugene, Roy, Donald, George and sister Geraldine (Russell) Swarthout, and grandson Matthew Lepak.

Gloria was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was truly a special woman. We were all so blessed and proud to have had her with us for as long as we did. She will be dearly missed.

Memorials preferred or donations to Gloria’s favorite charity St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
