Irene Undeland

Funeral service for Irene Maud Undeland, 96, of Aurora will be 11 am Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aurora with Pastor Barb Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.  Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Irene died Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Virginia. Irene was born February 6, 1922 in Glencairn, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Burley and Maud (Newlin) Ford.  When she was 15 years old, she and her family moved to the United States eventually settling in Ada, Minnesota where she met and married Maurice Undeland on December 16, 1946.  They farmed in Ada until moving to the Iron Range in 1956.  They owned and managed Holters Motel in Aurora for 19 years.  After their retirement they traveled the United States with friends and eventually became snowbirds making Texas their winter home.  Irene and Maurice were charter members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aurora. Irene did beautiful crochet work making afghans for all her children and grandchildren.  All of her family members have mementos of her handiwork.  If she didn’t have a crochet hook in her hand it was a book.  She loved to read.  But her passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She always had hugs and kisses for each and every one of them as they did her when they came to visit.  She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Richard) Krsiean and their children Shelly (Justin) Rach and Mark (Samantha) Krsiean; son Duane (Kate) and their children Aaron (Kathy), Paul (Shari), Katie (Josh) Bailey and Duane Kyle (Rochelle); son Donald (Allie); son Warren (Patricia) and their children Leah (Robert) Kennedy, Beth (Aaron) Layman, and Sara (Nathan) Kemppainen and eighteen great grandchildren.  Irene is also survived by her very special friend Earl Haugen. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Corrine Rae, sisters Norma and Evaline. Irene’s family wishes to thank Edgewood Vista for the wonderful care and kindness extended to her during her several years as a resident.
