Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Luke’s Tavern in Biwabik. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Aurora. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Jack Henry McDermid, 82, of Biwabik died Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora.
He was born on January 19, 1942 to Burt and Adair (Cuthbertson) McDermid in Hibbing. He attended the Virginia High School, graduating from the Class of 1960, He furthered his education at Bemidji State University where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1966. Jack taught for three years in Flint, MI. Jack then went to work teaching at Thief River Falls High School for six years, where he met Lila Davis. The couple were married on June 12, 1971. Jack and Lila moved to the Iron Range where Jack owned and operated McDermid Welding for fifteen years while also working as a boilermaker for the Union. He enjoyed making wine down in his “Seven Steps Winery” AKA, the basement and raising several Golden Retrievers over the years.
Jack was known for his witty sense of humor and his relentless, but loving teasing of his friends and family members. Most of all, Jack is fondly remembered for being a loving and dedicated father and husband.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Lila; two sons: Michael and Steven McDermid; brother, Bert McDermid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Quentin McDermid and Tandy Esala; and his parents.
