James Axelsen

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery Columbarium in Aurora.  

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

James “Axe” Henry Axelsen, 67, of Hoyt Lakes died Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at his home. He was born on August 13, 1956 to Ralph and Marjorie (Diviney) Axelsen in Superior, WI.   Axe attended the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School, graduating with the Class of 1974.  He was employed by the Erie Mining Company and most recently as a groundskeeper for the Eshquaguma Country Club Golf Course until his retirement.  Axe enjoyed hunting, fishing, ricing, trapping and gardening, especially growing tomatoes.

Survivors include his son, Hunter Axelsen; two sisters: Pat Axelsen and Cheryl Jones (Bill); his aunt, Petranella Bergstrom and several cousins; many lifelong friends including special friends: The Osborne Family, especially Julie, Tom and Becky Osborne; and his beloved dog, Jaeger.  

On March 8, 2024, Jag caught up to his master in the duck blind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Axelsen and Marge Foster.
