LeRoy B. Roos Sr.

Memorial Service for LeRoy Bernard Roos Sr., 92, of Makinen, will be 11am Friday, December 7, 2018 at Palo Congregational Church in Palo with Rev. Jerry Kosanovich officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Watson Cemetery in Fillmore County, Minnesota.  Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.   LeRoy died Friday, November 30, 2018 at his daughter’s residence in Aurora under hospice care.   He was born November 4, 1926 in Alton, Iowa to Edward and Esther (Hyink) Roos. LeRoy attended country school near Alton, Iowa and later worked on the family farm.  He enlisted with the US Marines during WWII.  He served during the surrender of the Japanese at Tsingtao China on October 25, 1945.   Following his military service, he met the love of his life. After three months of dating, he married Dorla Snow on June 19, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In 1949 they moved to Fountain, MN and in 1957 moved to the Iron Range.  He was employed by Erie Mining Company as a heavy equipment operator.  LeRoy retired from LTV Steel with over 30 years of service.   He was a member of Palo Congregational Church, the Steelworkers Union #4108 and the Eyota American Legion Post #551. He was an avid reader and gardener and especially enjoyed sharing his produce with many.   Survivors include his children: LeRoy Jr. (Sharon) of Iron, Jann (Jesus) Hernandez of Virginia,  Jill Ersbo of Aurora,   Randy (Roberta) of Cherry,  Robert of Rochester,  Dick (Michelle) of Eyota and Sally (Michael) Hunter of Tower;  15 grandchildren;  many great grandchildren; siblings: Ethel Hall of Stewartville,  Betty Hellickson of Preston and Ruby (Kenneth) Bushman of Roscoe;  several nieces and nephews.   He is preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Esther; wife, Dorla; grandson, Jonathan; siblings: Don, Eddie Dean, Joyce and Ethel in infancy.
