A gathering of family and friends for Lucille Edith Niemi, 82, of Palo will be held from 10 am – 12 pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Lucille died Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Spectrum Carefree Living in Aurora. She was born on April 5, 1936 to August and Edith (Ostlund) Anderson in Biwabik. Lucille graduated from the Aurora High School. On August 13, 1955 Lucille was united in marriage to Russell James Niemi. The couple made their home in Palo where they raised three children. Lucille had been employed as a cook at the Kangas Board and Lodging and the Salmi Homes. Lucille was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the cabin, beading, crocheting, and knitting. Survivors include her husband of 62 years: Russell; two daughters: Laureen Garman Copeland of NY and Cheryl (Ron) Hill of Aurora; daughter-in-law: Sharon Niemi; five grandchildren: Michael, Andrea, Alyssa, Jeremy, and Joseph; four great-grandchildren: Isabella, McKenna, Adelle, and Abigail; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Laurie Lehtinen; and her parents.
