Lynn DeForest Babcock, 82, of Palo passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora.
He was born on September 19, 1942 to Lloyd and Lydia (Moberg) Babcock in St. Vincent Township, MN. Lynn grew up in Kittson County and graduated from high school in June 1960. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps May of 1960 and joined them after graduation. After he worked at Range Co-Op, Jim’s Chevrolet, and several years at Reserve Mining in Babbitt. He was united in marriage to Beth Chellew on June 8, 1974 in Biwabik. He later worked for the Town of White as welder and mechanic before becoming a Foreman until his retirement. Durring much of that time he served at Union Steward in the Operating Engineer’s Local 49. After retirement, Lynn also served two terms as Town of White Supervisor and was a former President of the East Range Sporting and Conservation Club where he received a lifetime membership for his service. He was a member of the Palo Congregational Church and their Board, the Aurora American Legion, and the DAV of Virginia.
Lynn was an avid reader of all subjects. He enjoyed his retirement, being very active in shotgun sports and enjoying touring all around Europe as he visited his son and his family.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Beth; son, Earl (Noémi Székely) Babcock; two grandsons: Olivér and Máté; brother, Ralph (Mary) Babcock; nephew, Mick (Bobbie) Kochendorfer; nieces: Jeannine (Tim) Faldet and Hope Kochendorfer; great-niece, Kay (Greg) Jordan; and sister-in-law, Yvonne Kochendorfer.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Babcock; sister, Kay Kochendorfer; brother-in-law Bob Kochendorfer; an infant great-niece Rachel Faldet and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Palo Congregational Church with Pastor Belle Westman officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the services at the church. Inurnment will be in the Rauha Cemetery in Palo. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
