Mick died peacefully Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Essentia Health – Northern Pines in Aurora, Minnesota.
He was born March 5, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Malcolm and Bernice Stead. He was a 1959 graduate of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School and later joined the US Navy in 1962. He was stationed at the Great Lakes Hospital as a corpsman. He met, fell in love and married Myra “Stevie” Stevens in 1962. He was discharged in 1966 and moved his young family to Hoyt Lakes. There he worked for Erie Mining Company, completed the millwright apprenticeship and retired from there in 1997.
Mick loved to woodwork and built everything from cradles to potty chairs to roll top desks and gun cabinets. Mick loved golf; a sport he did not start until he was 70. He loved playing “old farts” with his buddies. He spent as much time playing as he could. And woe to anyone who stole his golf cart.
Mick and Stevie were both members of the Hoyt Lakes Garden Club. Mick was an active member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Palo.
