Funeral services for Norman Stanley Ross, 86, of Hoyt Lakes will be 11 am Friday, May 10, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Brian Birk officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Norman died Friday, May 3, 2019 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora. He was born on July 7, 1932 to Arthur and Gladys (Kuehl) Ross in Forest City, MN. He grew up and attended school in Forest City. Norm helped his father on the family farm and after his father’s untimely passing, he stayed to continue farming with this brothers. Norm met the love of his life, Jane Hicks in their hometown. The couple were married on October 25, 1952 in Litchfield. They celebrated 49 years of marriage until her passing. The couple briefly lived in Pierre, SD until moving to Hoyt Lakes in 1957. Norm had been employed by Erie Mining Company as a crane operator, retiring from LTV Steel after 37 years of dedicated service. During that time he also worked at several various jobs delivering fuel oil and coal. Norm was a Zamboni driver and Goal Judge at the Hoyt Lakes Arena for several years. He enjoyed playing recreational sports in Hoyt Lakes especially on the Men’s Softball Leagues. He also volunteered as an umpire for many years. Norm took the greatest pleasure in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children: Rodney (Wendy) Ross of Aurora, Doug Ross of Hoyt Lakes, Gary (Debra) Ross of Buffalo and Tom (Lori) Ross of Eveleth; ten grandchildren: Amy Gross, Angela Ross, Andrea Ross, Wanda (Taras Lendzyk) Lundeen, Kyle (Brooke) Ross, Ryan (Laurie Bodin) Ross, Erik (Kristin) Ross, Kelly (Tyler) Antony, Jeremy (Tesa Wiitanen) Ross, and Ashley (Andrew) Johnson; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Asfeld of Shakopee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; two brothers: Mike and Boyd Ross; a sister, Maxine Pehle; and his parents.
