Peggy Harju

Memorial service for Peggy Jane Harju, 75, of Lakeland will be 10:30 am Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Biwabik Covenant Church with Pastor Clyde Harvey officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert. Peggy died peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. Peggy was born on June 25, 1943 to Milford and Gladys (Newton) Strom in Duluth. She attended school in Proctor.  On June 19, 1961, Peggy was united in marriage to Richard Harju.  The couple made their home in Lakeland where they raised four children.  Peggy was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother.  She had volunteered for the Quad City Food Shelf in Gilbert for seventeen years and was active in 4H.   She was a member of the Red Hat Society and bowled on the Virginia Bowling League.  She enjoyed garage sales, pontoon rides, and spending time at the cabin.  She took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs. Survivors include her husband of 57 years: Richard; children: Linda (Robert) Spooner of Champlin, Connie Harju of Orr, Brandon Harju of Merrill, WI, and Maija (Joseph) Bolen of Duluth; grandchildren: Justin Spooner and Mason, Axton, and Morgan Bolen; two great-granddaughters: McKenna and Aly Spooner; one sister, Teddy Newton of Missoula, MT; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Strom and her parents.
