Memorial Mass for Phyllis Marie Lamkin, 83, of Aurora will be 11 am Monday, March 18, 2019 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. Peter Lambert celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass at the church. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Aurora. Phyllis died Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Essentia Health-Virginia. She was born on September 15, 1935 in Minneapolis to John and Berce (Braeger) Carlson. She grew up in Minneapolis and Buhl. Phyllis graduated from the Buhl High School, Class of 1953. After high school, she married James Kangas and the couple had six children. After she and James divorced, Phyllis was remarried to Kenneth Lamkin until their subsequent divorce. Phyllis worked as multiple jobs including the US Forest Service, Dr. Campus’ office, and finally Republic/Northwest Airlines in customer service where she retired from after twenty-three years of service. Phyllis enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to travel the world. She was passionate about many subjects including: home interior design, genealogy, sewing, scrapbooking, and collectibles. Phyllis took the greatest pleasure in her family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Debbra Lee (former husband, Roger) Harju, Jeffrey (Debra) Kangas, Wendy (Rodney) Ross, and Jaime (Nancy Grummet) Kangas; grandchildren: Amy Gross, Lori Pankey, Angela Ross, Christopher Kangas, Jeremy Harju, Kori Kangas, Andrea Ross, Chad Kangas, Stephanie (Jesse) Wudinich, Nathan (Katie) Kangas, Kami (Kyle) McChesney, and Taijalee Harju; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Robert (Jayne) and Richard (Jennifer) Carlson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Richard Kangas; a grandson-in-law, Walter Gross; and her parents.
