Memorial service for Randall William Armstrong, 56, of Hoyt Lakes will be 11 am Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Mickey Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Military honors accorded by the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Randall died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at his residence. Randy was born June 21, 1962 in Eveleth, MN to Richard and Rose (Frerich) Armstrong. He was a 1980 graduate of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School, and enlisted into the USCG that same year, being stationed in Portland, Maine. While serving, he traveled the waters off of Cuba for six months. He then traveled the Great Lakes to Duluth, finishing his service on the Coast Guard Cutter Sundew. Randy earned an accounting degree at DBU and worked for the Superior Shores Resort, the City of Two Harbors, and Dyno Nobel in Biwabik. Randy was an A Team swimmer who was known to always being accepting of and mentoring the underclassmen. He set a pool record for the 200 Freestyle, which he held for a couple of years. Randy enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Randy loved his sisters and created a unique bond with each one of his nieces and nephews. Randy married Lori K. Walls on April 22, 2016. Randy was lovingly referred to as “Randad” by his step daughters; Holley (Axel) Polansky, Brittaney (Brian) Polansky, and Jazmine (Josh) Bernard; as well as four grandchildren who adored him immensely. Everyone who knew him will remember his joke telling, infectious laugh, beautiful big smile, and meaningful hugs. His presence was felt by everyone the moment he stepped into the room. Randy was someone you may have only met for a moment, but will remember for a lifetime. Randy is survived by his wife, Lori; three sisters: Rhonda (Brad) Paulson of Clear Lake, WI, Renee (Greg) Lekatz of Rush City and June (Tony) Bluhm of Hoyt Lakes; niece and nephews: Ross, Brent (Kacey), and Alex Paulson, Rose and Logan Lekatz, Amanda Bluhm, Erica (Kyle) Ova and Jacob (Sarah) Bluhm. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Wally Walls. Randy will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
