Here today, gone tomorrow. Richard William Wallace, age 85, passed on September 26th, 2023. He lost his battle with cancer. He was able to spend his last months with his wife Karen at the Glenn in Buffalo, MN.
Richard was born on September 5th, 1938, to William and Francis Wallace, in Detroit Lakes, MN. Richard grew up on a farm and loved farm life. This led to his love of tractors, especially John Deeres. He loved to drive and work on tractors and various farming equipment throughout his life.
Richard married the love of his life, Karen Boorom, on June 13th, 1959, at the Holy Rosary Church, in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Richard spent several years Honorably in the Army Reserve, and was Honorably discharged, in December 1963, with the rank of Sargent.
Richard and Karen then moved to Hoyt Lakes where Richard would work at Erie Mining Co. (later LTV Steel), until his retirement. He was actively involved with the TRC, committees, and the Union.
Richard was an avid outdoors man. He was a member of the NRA, East Range Sportsmen’s and Conservation Club (actively worked on site), ATV Club, and Snowmobile Club. He was involved with making and maintaining trails for ATV’s and Snowmobiles.
He was a member of the Moose Club, Hoyt Lakes Zoning Board, worked at the Hoyt Lakes Recycle Center, worked for Adams Small Engine in Aurora, MN. Richard was a Certified trainer for gun permits and ATV driving permits.
He loved going to auctions and tractor pulls, fishing and hunting, spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
He knew everyone and was always willing to help and always brought a smile to everyone. You would always see Richard around town and events.

He is survived by his wife Karen, sisters Donna Bjerke, Cecelia Leverson, Sylvia (Donald)Dufner, sister-in-law Barbara Lavaque, sons Michael (Teresa), Mark (Lisa), daughter Michelle (Steve), 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.
A Memorial service will be held 10am Friday, October 6, 2023 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial service will follow at the Hoyt Lakes Cemetery.
