Robert "Goody" Goodale Jr.

Visitation for Robert H. “Goody” Goodale Jr., 78, of rural Gilbert, will be 4:00pm-6:00pm Wednesday, September 11 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will continue at the Gilbert VFW Post.

Goody died Friday, September 6, 2024 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.

He was born July 22, 1946 in Hartford, Connecticut to Robert and June (Schear) Goodale Sr. Following his schooling, Goody enlisted with the US Air Force. After his military service, he moved to Minnesota. Here, he worked for Erie Mining Company and retired from LTV Steel as a millwright. In August of 2009 he married Rebecca Clapsaddle in Virginia, Minnesota. Goody was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Becky; daughter, Bobbi (Steve) Leathers of Mt. Iron; step-children: Candie (Dewey) Nikunen, Brian (Jenn) Otto, and Tammie (Matt) Burgoon; grandchildren: Alex (Sam) Goodale, Brittany (Kyle) Nanti, Tanner Nikunen, Dylan Burgoon, Elle (Cole) Niemala, Jared Burgoon, Colie Otto, Kade Otto and Emma Burgoon; three great grandchildren: Carter and Zoey Nanti and Finnley Goodale; brother, Milos Goodale; sister, Char Schmidt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and June; mother of his children, Betty Jo Zganjar; sons, James and William in infancy; brother, Harley.

Goody’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Essentia – St. Mary’s for their excellent care given to him over the past weeks. Your kindness to the family will not be forgotten.
