Ronald (Ron) James Barteck, 88 years old, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Northern Pines Care Center in Aurora, MN.
Ron was born on April 27, 1936 to Maynard and Leona (Haen) in Sheboygan, WI. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in the spring of 1955. Ron joined the National Guard in High School and he enlisted in the Air Force after graduation. Following basic training, he was trained as a meteorologist. He served in Duluth where he met Judy and spent the last year of his enlistment at a remote base in Alaska.
Ron married Judith (Judy) Hultman on September 30, 1961in Duluth, MN. They eventually made their home in Hoyt Lakes and have resided there for the past 55 years. Ron was an active member of the community always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, family and friends. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he volunteered on numerous committees and sang in the choir.
Ron began his employment as a mechanic in the Area 1 shop at the Erie/LTV Mine. He was promoted to Area 1 Shop Supervisor and finished his career as the Rebuild Shop’s Assistant General Forman retiring in June 1998. Ron never let the grass grow under his feet as he was always busy. He liked to garden, mow the grass and shovel the snow. In the fall you could find Ron out hunting pheasants, grouse, ducks and deer. He was an avid fisherman and was often found on the local lakes in the evening or early mornings. After his retirement, Ron bought his boat, The RJB, to fulfill a lifelong dream of fishing on Lake Superior. When he wasn't outdoors, you could find him in his shop tinkering on a project, woodworking or experimenting with a new recipe in the kitchen. He also went on mission trips to Africa and Mexico, he travelled to Europe and around the US with Judy. Ron will be remembered for his generous heart, his beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
Ron is survived by his wife, Judy of Hoyt Lakes, his daughter, Kim (Ron) vonBrethorst of Mazeppa, MN; his son, Troy (Missy) of Aurora, MN; his brother, Carl (Claudia) of Greeley, Colorado; his sister, Jan Martin of Rochester, granddaughter, Holli (Joey) Abrahamson of St. Michael, MN and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
