A gathering of family and friends of Shane Thomas McGregor, 56, of Aurora, will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 1:00-3:00pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. A luncheon will follow at 3:30pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aurora.
Shane entered into eternal rest on April 24, 2019.
He was born April 28, 1962 in Eveleth, MN to Harold and Patricia (Patten) McGregor. He attended school in Chisholm and graduated from Mt. Iron High School. He furthered his education and graduated from Eveleth Vocational School in automated electronics.
Shane began working for his father at the age of 13 moving houses and after graduating from Eveleth Tech, he moved to the twin cities and worked for Medina Electric. Later, he worked for M.E. Global in Duluth and in 1994 he began working for the DM&IR Railroad which later became Canadian National. Shane was a signal maintainer and loved his job, but mostly loved going to work and spending time with his fellow co-workers who were the brothers he never had.
Shane loved the outdoors and was an avid deer and duck hunter, loved fishing…but not the fact that his wife and daughter would out fish him – but never complained and was always there to take their fish off the hook. He loved spending time on Elephant Lake at the McGregor Clan retreat and also on Pelican Lake at the Skelton family Oasis.
Shane was quick with a joke…maybe not always appropriate…but never saw the harm in trying to make someone laugh.
He entered into marriage on January 9, 1988 to the love of his life, Kelly, and his greatest accomplishment came as a result of that – his daughter, Emily. Shane was the guy that when you asked him a simple question, you always got a long story usually ending with someone saying “Get to the point Shane”.
Shane will be missed for so many things; his willingness to help anyone who needed it, the glint in his beautiful blue eyes when you knew he was up to no good or the little tricks he played like putting dog treats in your lunch bag. Shane loved to share skittles with his littles saying, “The more colorful your diet, the better”. But most of all the love he had for all of those who were close to him.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughter, Emily; mother, Joan McGregor; sisters: Shawn Simonson, Sheila (Kraig) Reash and Shari (Tim) Overbye; nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and a large extended family; his pets the 2nd Mrs. McGregor Boo, Tilly and Benny.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Harold “Dodo” McGregor and Patricia (Patten); grandparents: Lester and Regetta McGregor, Wayne and Myrna Patten and Walter and Esther Suihkonen.
