Funeral Service for Steven Allen Stoks, 61, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10:30am Friday, May 17, 2019 at Assembly of God Church in Aurora with Pastor Derrick DeTurk officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-7pm at the church. Private family burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo, Minnesota. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
Steve died accidentally on Monday, May 13, 2019 in Biwabik, Minnesota.
He was born December 1, 1957 in Marshall, Minnesota to Vincent and LaVonne (VanKeulen) Stoks. He was a 1977 graduate of Cottonwood High School and later received his AA Degree in law enforcement from Willmar Community College. On January 26, 1980 he married Linda Oakland in Montevideo.
Steve began working as a police officer for Hoyt Lakes on February 8, 1980, later became police Chief and retired as Chief from the City of Hoyt Lakes in 2014. Steve served as Fire Chief for many years, was a firearm safety instructor for 40 years and Chairman of the East Range Ducks Unlimited for several years.
He also worked for the DNR and the Forest Service where he served as a Wildland Firefighter out west for numerous years. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, especially with 3 sons, and most recently, fishing. Steve was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Aurora and each year played part in the “Living Last Supper.”
Survivors include his wife, Linda; children: Jeromy (Kim)Stoks of Henderson, NV, David (Abigail Leskiw) Stoks of Hoyt Lakes and Christopher (Emily) Stoks of Blaine; grandchildren: Abigail, Sarah and Rylie; his parents, Vincent and LaVonne Stoks of Marshall; siblings: Diane (Dave) Schwerin of Wood Lake, Shannon (Chris) Martinson of Fridley and Nancy (John) Busack of Wood Lake; several nieces and nephews; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David (Glenda) Oakland of Aurora, CO; his in-laws: Doug (Marlys Christenson) Oakland, Susanne (James) Frederickson of Aurora, CO and Deanna (John) Robison of Colorado Springs, CO.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother Madeline Stoks, grandparents June & Alfred Van Keulen, and mother-in-law, June Oakland.
